Reduction of skin problems at the Alpha socket/skin interface.

چکیده
Two cases are presented in whom the provision of an Alpha Liner relieved the patients' stump discomfort but developed a skin eruption at the top of the liner. This was resolved satisfactorily by cutting scallops into the top of the liner.

Residual-limb skin temperature in transtibial sockets.
The insulated environment of the lower-limb prosthesis can result in elevated residual-limb skin temperatures that may contribute to skin irritation, blistering, and a reduced quality of life. The design and materials of the prosthetic socket, suspension system, and liner can potentially alleviate these conditions, but the thermal load may vary with activity and location within the socket. To c...
متن کاملTechniques for Interface Stress Measurements within Prosthetic Sockets of Transtibial Amputees: A Review of the Past 50 Years of Research
The distribution of interface stresses between the residual limb and prosthetic socket of a transtibial amputee has been considered as a direct indicator of the socket quality fit and comfort. Therefore, researchers have been very interested in quantifying these interface stresses in order to evaluate the extent of any potential damage caused by the socket to the residual limb tissues. During t...
متن کاملThermal time constant: optimising the skin temperature predictive modelling in lower limb prostheses using Gaussian processes
Elevated skin temperature at the body/device interface of lower-limb prostheses is one of the major factors that affect tissue health. The heat dissipation in prosthetic sockets is greatly influenced by the thermal conductive properties of the hard socket and liner material employed. However, monitoring of the interface temperature at skin level in lower-limb prosthesis is notoriously complicat...
متن کاملComparison of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and Gaussian processes for machine learning (GPML) algorithms for the prediction of skin temperature in lower limb prostheses.
Monitoring of the interface temperature at skin level in lower-limb prosthesis is notoriously complicated. This is due to the flexible nature of the interface liners used impeding the required consistent positioning of the temperature sensors during donning and doffing. Predicting the in-socket residual limb temperature by monitoring the temperature between socket and liner rather than skin and...
متن کاملSkin problems of the leg amputee.
Introduction Lower-extremity amputees, the group with which this paper is concerned, include persons who have been subjected to gross anatomic loss of the lower limbs at widely varying levels, such as partial foot amputation, below-knee and above-knee amputations, knee or hip disarticulation, and hemipelvectomy. Amputation at each level is attended by distinctive problems of functional loss, fi...
